As mentioned, I went to watch the Singapore vs Malaysia match yesterday, with a nasty cold. I never considered myself as the patriotic sort so that even when we were made to sing the national anthem before the match, I found it hard to find my voice.

As the match progress, I start to find myself wanting Singapore to win. Maybe it was influence from Tim who was really on the edge of his seat rooting for the Lions. Or maybe it was the general atmosphere in the stadium when more than 99% of the crowd are made up of Singaporeans. By the second half of the match, I was shouting and hoarsing my voice out with WOO! and BOO!

Then it came to the point when Malaysia scored one against us and we were greatly demoralised. 15 minutes left into the game and the score was 1-nil. It doesn't help when the M'sia keeper started diving each time we bring the ball into their penalty area, faking injury and playing off time. I was so disgusted by his repeated "Rivaldo behavior" that I shouted damn loudly "KEEPER PUSSY AH!" Haha think everyone got a shock by the crudity. But I couldn't help it. I can't stand injustice and I believe that fairplay is very important in every aspects of our lives - sports, career, etc. It's my, perhaps personal and a little naive, belief that we should never go against our morals so as to emerge the "winner" in a competition.

Anyway, God was fair and we manage to equalise ourselves before the end of the game, which led us to extra time. Still, no winner emerged from extra time so penalty shoot out became the next option. Like Tim had said, it was a time of instantaneous happiness or depression. 5 shots each and all went in. So it came the final moment of sudden death. Their Pussy Keeper let in our goal. And our keeper caught the next!!!

Yep so the mood was high and everyone was standing, leaping, whooping for glee. except for the small cube of yellow across the stands from us. It was a match that really made our money worth man. So then as we head on for beef kway teow at Geylang later on that night, we all agreed to catch the match against Thailand in the finals.

I never thought I would enjoy the match but I guess it's a different thing altogether, watching it on TV and catching it live. The emotions that run through the stadium can be really contagious.
