Have you ever had a lucky shopping day?
If you did, you'll understand exactly how I felt yesterday.
I went shopping with my mother yesterday, so that I can give her an opinion on what to buy/wear to her company function next week and for CNY as well. We started off having dinner at Pastamania and I ordered the tomato herb soup for my mother. But turns out she wanted the minestrone instead so I went back to the queue to reorder. The manager saw me again and asked if the tomato herb soup was okay. I told him my mother didn't like it and so he told his crew to void the minestrone order and told me it's on the house. Great service eh? Esp when it's a place where they don't charge service charge.
Anyway, our first stop was Mango and I found this navy blue blazer/jacket and tried it on. The cutting was flattering, the style was chic, and a look at the price tag says that I should buy it. The sticker in white says $110, the sticker in red says $55. My mother offered to pay for me so happily we went to pay at the cashier. When the sales assistant handled our merchandise, she announced that the price is actually $33! It's like picking up 2 pieces of $10 bill on the street.
Later on, we saw this purple skirt with sweet embroidery and my mother tried it on. She liked it and was adamant about buying it. But being the shopping queen that I am, I felt that the price at $69 did not justify the brand, the material, the cut, or any of its combination. We got into a debate which quickly escalate into a hostile exchange of remarks. Eventually my mother decided to heed my advice. Leave the skirt first and check out other stores. It's not on sale, it's not dirt cheap, and it's not exceptionally beautiful, there's no worry that it'll be gone within a couple hours.
We went to Bysi, and I picked out this floral skirt. The prints were gorgeous, and the colours were understated yet good for matching. What's most important was that the workmanship is pretty good esp considering that we got it at a steal of $23! I gave my mother a look that said "I told you so" after we left the shop, and I'm pretty sure she abandon the idea of the $69 skirt immediately. Later, we headed to another retail store and found this black skirt of silk-like material and pretty laces. She tried it, liked it, and bought it. When we were paying for it, the salesperson told us that we get an additional 15% discount if we have a POSB/DBS debit/credit card. It's like picking up money from the floor again.
Before we head home, we saw some bedsheets on sale at Isetan and I decided to have a look since I needed one to match the quilt cover I bought from IKEA. Checking the price list, I picked out one that I thought was $32 after 50% off. But when we were paying for it, the cashier checked with the salesperson because there was no price tag and the guy told her $25! I'm pretty sure now you know what I'm gonna say about how that felt like :).
So we went home with bags in our hands and happiness on our faces. It was indeed a magical day for us.
